Implants

One of the newer dental treatments that is widely in demand is dental implants. A dental implant is a predictable, cost-effective way to replace one or more teeth that have been lost or should be removed. The process involves Dr. Kratz evaluating the implant site and planning out the course of treatment with a trusted periodontal specialist or oral surgeon. In most cases, the procedure is quite simple. After thorough evaluation of your individual oral health circumstances, Dr. Kratz will direct the specialist to place a hollow screw, made out of titanium, into the jawbone. Dr. Kratz will then construct a temporary restoration to replace the missing tooth while the bone and gum tissue grow around the screw. At the proper time, Dr. Kratz will attach a natural-looking and durable prosthetic tooth (or bridge if multiple teeth are being replaced) to the screw.

In some cases, the condition of the jawbone may be inadequate to support a dental implant. Because Dr. Kratz carefully evaluates the underlying bone in consultation with the specialist prior to planning the implant, you will be fully informed, and if the bone is inadequate, there are treatments available, such as bone grafting, for improving the site prior to the implant screw being inserted. Taking time to thoroughly evaluate each patient's circumstances and develop the most appropriate treatment plan is important.
